Online Job Ads In August Down 17.3% From Last Year

ONLINE JOB ADS IN AUGUST DOWN 17.3% FROM LAST YEAR
Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers are the Top Jobs in August.

MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in August 2023, there were 97,791 job ads posted in Alabama.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Ex. Technical & Scientific Products, and Fast Food and Counter Workers, with 15,974 ads placed for those occupations in August.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In August 2023, there were 40,499 total job ads with salaries, including 10,699 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 6,812 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range; 10,554 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-50,000 range, and 12,434 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in August were Huntsville Hospital with 1,067 and UAB Medicine with 1,061. The rest of the top 10 were: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (832), Auburn University (579), PCH Hotels & Resorts (514), Baptist Health (512), Walmart (506), USA Health (477), Lowe’s (462), and The University of Alabama (455).
